Sawan Ka Mahina
The Monsoon Song
Savan is one of the four monsoon months in India. Indians love monsoon and rain. In USA there is no official monsoon season, yet most Americans don’t like rain. Remember the Carpenter song ‘Rainy days and Mondays always get me down!’
Most Indian farmers depend on monsoon for agriculture, and hence their livelihood. The economy depends upon good monsoon season. Religiously monsoon is the month crowded with religious holidays. It also brings big relief from burning hot summer temperature.
But Monsoon is also loved for its beauty. (Many Americans won’t agree with this :)). Besides spring, monsoon is the most favorite season for poets in India. Cool, cloudy day with clean greenery and trees, create very romantic atmosphere for Indians. And that is what is celebrated in this song.
Laxmikant-Pyarelal duo is a leading music composer of Indian cinema. This is one of their best compositions from a hit film Milan. Lata Mangeshkar and late Mukesh have sung it very beautifully.
I hope you like my instrumental version.
